Privacy policy

The short version

We collect what you put into seichu so we can run it for you. Your tasks, notes, habits, mood and sleep stay private. Only your public profile and leaderboard stats are visible to other users. We don't sell your data or show ads. You can export or delete everything from Settings at any time.

1.Who we are

seichu (“seichu”, “we”, “us”) is a productivity app for planning tasks, building habits, focusing and reflecting. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the seichu website and app, how we use it, and the choices you have. You can reach us at hello@seichu.xyz.

2.What we collect

Account details. Your email address and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. If you turn on two-factor authentication, we store the setup needed to check your codes.

Your profile. Your username, avatar, country, one-line tagline, theme and other settings.

What you put into seichu. Tasks and projects, habits and check-ins, notes, focus (pomodoro) and mindful sessions, weekly reviews, and your streak and activity history.

Mood and sleep entries. If you log them, we store your mood and sleep records. These can say something about your wellbeing, so we use them only to show them back to you, for example in your analytics, personal insights and Wrapped recap. They are never shown to other people.

Social features. The friends (buddies) you add, invites and referrals, and the focus rooms you create or join.

Usage and technical data. Pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and error reports when something breaks. See Cookies and analytics.

3.How we use it

  • To run seichu: save your data, sync it across your devices, and show you your streaks, stats, insights and recaps.
  • To power the social features you choose to use: friend streaks, focus rooms and leaderboards.
  • To send you emails: sign-in and account emails, and the weekly summary email, which you can turn off in Settings.
  • To keep seichu secure, prevent abuse, and fix bugs.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how seichu is used so we can improve it.

4.What other people can see

Most of what you put into seichu is private to you. The exceptions are the social features:

  • Signed-in seichu users can see your username, avatar, country flag and tagline, along with your streak, focus minutes and mindful minutes on the leaderboards.
  • Friends you add can see your shared streak and whether you've shown up today.
  • People in a focus room with you can see that you're there, along with your public profile.
  • Share cards you create (streak or Wrapped images) show whatever is on the card to anyone you share them with.

Your tasks, notes, habits, mood, sleep and reviews are never shown to other users.

5.Services we use

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show ads. We share data only with service providers that help us run seichu, and only what they need:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage (where your account and content live).
  • Vercel: website hosting and privacy-friendly page view analytics.
  • Google: only if you choose “Sign in with Google”.
  • Resend: sending emails.
  • Sentry: error reports, so we can fix crashes.
  • PostHog: product analytics about how features are used.
  • Stripe: payments, if you buy a paid plan. Stripe handles your card details; we never see or store your full card number.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of seichu, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your data.

6.Cookies and analytics

We keep cookies and browser storage to a minimum:

  • A sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in. seichu can't work without it.
  • Small preference cookies and browser storage, such as whether the sidebar is collapsed, your daily focus goal, and which reminders you've dismissed.
  • Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies. We remove link details such as invite codes before anything is sent.
  • PostHog product analytics may store an identifier in your browser to tell visits apart.

We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

7.How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account in Settings, your account and everything in it (tasks, habits, notes, sessions, mood and sleep entries, friends and rooms) are deleted right away. Copies may remain in our providers' encrypted backups for a limited time before they are overwritten. Error and analytics records are kept for a limited period and then deleted by those providers.

8.Your choices and rights

  • Export your data at any time from Settings.
  • Edit your profile, or remove your country and tagline, in Settings.
  • Turn off the weekly summary email in Settings.
  • Delete your account and all its data from Settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as to access, correct or restrict the use of your information, to object to how we use it, or to complain to your local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email hello@seichu.xyz. We'll respond within 30 days.

9.Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access to it is restricted so each account can only reach its own private data. You can add two-factor authentication in Settings for extra protection. No service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password, and tell us right away at hello@seichu.xyz if you think your account has been compromised.

10.Where your data is stored

Our service providers may store and process your data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as the providers' standard contractual clauses.

11.Children

seichu isn't available to children under 13 for now. Everyone is asked their birth month and year when they sign up. If someone says they're under 13:

  • Their account can't be used: nothing else is collected beyond the email address, password, and birth month and year they've already given.
  • They can delete the account straight away. Otherwise we delete it automatically within 30 days.
  • Any friendships, rooms or challenges from before are removed, and their public profile details are cleared.

If you believe a child under 13 has given us their information, contact us at hello@seichu.xyz and we'll delete it.

12.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as seichu changes. We'll change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll also let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
